How does live wedding painting work?

Beginning to End
I paint live for 4–6 hours during your wedding ceremony, reception, or both.

Every wedding is unique, so I work to your schedule for the day. Around one month before your wedding, we'll have a detailed consultation to discuss your vision, timeline, and the special moment you'd like captured on canvas.

Before I leave, you'll get to see the painting and share in the excitement of the reveal. I then take the artwork back to my studio for final refinements and varnishing.

Please allow up to 2 months for completion, although many paintings are finished within 2–4 weeks. Once the artwork is complete, I will send you photos for approval to ensure you're happy with the final result. The painting can then be collected or carefully shipped to you.

Depending on the subject matter you choose, the process and requirements may vary slightly. Please see the options below for more information.

Bride & Groom Portrait
On the day, I typically arrive up to two hours early to begin painting the background. This may be based on your ceremony location, first dance setting, or another meaningful scene from your wedding.

When it's time to capture your portrait, I'll either take reference photos during a brief photoshoot after the ceremony or photograph the moment during the ceremony. Using these references, I'll paint you into the scene while your guests enjoy watching the artwork come to life throughout the celebration.

Floral Bouquet
A reference photo of your bouquet can be sent to me before the wedding, or I can take my own photos on the day before I begin painting in front of the guests.

Other Subject Matter
If you would prefer a painting of another meaningful subject—such as the place you first met, where you got engaged, a favourite landscape, or a special location from home—we can discuss this during your consultation. A digital mock-up will be created and approved by you before the wedding day.

Do You Travel?

Yes! I'm based in the Manawatū region and primarily service weddings and events within 200km of Palmerston North. I can also take on a limited number of bookings outside this area.

Travel is included within a 20km radius. For locations beyond this, travel fees will apply, with accommodation, flights, and travel time considered for destination events.

How early should I book?

The peak wedding season is from October to March, so availability can be limited during these months.

Once you have secured your venue and wedding date, I recommend getting in touch as soon as possible to avoid missing out.

How Do I Book?

Submit an enquiry with details about your wedding, including the date, time, venue location, and the subject you'd like painted (such as the bride and groom, a floral bouquet, or something else).

If I am available for your date, I'll send through a booking contract and invoice.

To secure your booking, a signed contract and 20% deposit (plus any applicable travel fees) are required within 7 days. The remaining balance is due 2 weeks before your wedding day.

What if I'm too late to book a live painting experience?

I also offer custom commission paintings created from your photo references. Popular subjects include wedding scenes, bridal bouquets, pets, landscapes, seascapes or gardens.

These artworks are completed in my studio rather than painted live at your wedding. While I may not be there on the day, I create each piece to capture the beauty, emotion, and atmosphere of your day, resulting in a timeless keepsake you'll cherish for years to come.

The commission price is slightly lower than a live painting experience. Enquire

What if I have to cancel my booking?

I understand that sometimes plans change. If your wedding is postponed or cancelled due to circumstances beyond your reasonable control, I will do my very best to accommodate a new date, subject to availability.

Should an alternative date not be available, you will be offered a custom wedding painting created from your photo references. Any deposit paid (20%), excluding any applicable travel fees, can be applied towards the commissioned artwork. If you have already paid the full balance, the full amount paid (excluding any travel fees already incurred or paid) can be transferred to the commission.

A commissioned artwork is the preferred resolution in this situation, ensuring you still receive the same artwork size and package value that was originally agreed upon, just without the live painting experience.

You are also welcome to change the subject matter of the artwork. However, additional fees may apply if the new subject is significantly more complex or falls outside the scope of the original package and quotation.
